The purpose of Science Olympiad is to improve the quality of Science Education by increasing student interest. This is accomplished by using classroom activities and tournaments. The hope is academic competitions will receive the same recognition and praise of that of an athletic event.

In a Science Olympiad tournament, students compete in various events ranging from designing structures to solving problems to answering questions, all with the application of scientific principles.

Students are able to experience many different ideas and elements to the scientific world and test their skills in the different events in Science Olympiad. They get a chance to interact with other students from all over the state.

Two teams of fifteen students are chosen from Columbia City High School to go to Goshen College Indiana Wesleyan. There they compete in a regional competition. If either of them wins they go to the state competition. If they are able to advance from there they get a chance to go to state. Science Olympiad is a very fun and educational experience.

The teams are led by Mr. Weaver.
