Driver Education at Columbia City High School is offered year round. Each student that enrolls in the driver education course must meet the following requirements:

1. Complete 30 hours of classroom instruction. Classroom instruction will be offered four separate times. Students need to choose one of the following sessions:

a) Fall Session at Columbia City High School September 9th - 26th, 2013 (Mondays-Thursdays 3:45-6:00 p.m. Fridays 3:45-5:15 p.m.)
b) Winter Session at Columbia City High School December 2nd - December 19th, 2013(Mondays-Thursdays 3:45-6:00 p.m. Fridays 3:45-5:15 p.m.)
c) Spring Session at Columbia City High School TBD - (Mondays-Thursdays 3:45-6:00 p.m. Fridays 3:45-5:15 p.m.)
d) Summer Session at Columbia City High School June 10-June 21, 2013, 8:00-11:00 a.m.

2. Complete six hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor. Each driving instructor will work with the assigned students to arrange their driving schedules. No student shall receive more than one-hour per day behind-the-wheel instruction. Once the student has completed and paid for both the book and driving instruction, they must have their permits stamped and signed by the instructor.

3. The driver education teachers at Columbia City High School are certified to teach the classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. However, they are not certified state examiners. Therefore, all students taking driver education through Columbia City High School will need to take the written and driving exams at your local license branch to receive their operator's license. The written exam can be taken anytime after their 16th birthday. The driving exam must be scheduled in advance with the license branch. Remember to take the signed and stamped driver education learner permit to the license branch. This proves you have completed driver education. Students need to verify their social security number while at the license branch.

To enroll in the driver education course, the following must be done:
1. Complete the online signup form - Online Signup Form (Same as link above). If you are applying in person or by hard copy, please bring the application and payment to Mary Thomas in the main office at CCHS. The fee is: $270.00. This fee may be paid at the time of enrollment or in two installments; $135.00 at the time of enrollment with the remainder of $135.00 to be paid at the first classroom instruction day. MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO: CCHS (Columbia City High School). In the memo on the check please write in DRIVER EDUCATION. The student's permit will not be signed by school officials until the total fee is paid.
